Object Dynamics was founded in 1996 by Robin Cohen, who holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Virginia.

Object-oriented roots

Robin's foundation is the object-oriented tradition that shaped modern software. As a NeXT campus consultant and then building production systems on NeXT technology, he worked in that world from its early days. On the strength of design feedback he gave NeXT on its database tooling, he was invited onto a small corporate advisory board that helped direct the design of NeXT's Foundation and Enterprise Objects frameworks. He worked directly with both teams, including the engineers who designed Enterprise Objects — Craig Federighi, Linus Upson, Richard Williamson, and Dan Willhite. Robin later shipped Enterprise Objects in production during a decade architecting financial systems at Fannie Mae.

The name

Good object-oriented design manages complexity; well-designed systems stay adaptable. That is the whole idea of the company — objects, and dynamics — and it has been the through-line of the work since 1996.
